Fall is also synonymous of the beginning of the new school year, and in Paris, it is characterized by a real culture and festive buzz. The capital kicks off the new academic year at full speed and is full of surprises and energy! And the least we can say is that Paris is not lacking activities for the coming fall!
First of all, why not enjoy the very simple pleasure of walking around the parks of the city. They show off their most beautiful colors and the light that shines through Paris at this period of year is absolutely dazzling.
CULTURAL KICK OFF
One of the most awaited events of the fall is the “Journées du patrimoine”, the 19th and the 20th of September. The historical monuments open their doors to the public for free. No less than 16 000 sites will participate to the event. Why not take advantage of this and go to visit the Presidential palace, l’Elysée (you won’t be the only ones however!), the Hôtel de Ville or, less well-known but close to the hotel, the Château de Vincennes. www.journeesdupatrimoine.culturecommunication.gouv.fr
For the art lovers and collectors, Paris is also hosting the FIAC: International fair of Contemporary Art, from the 22nd to the 25th of October 2015. During several days, the Grand Palais, the Cour Carrée (within the quarters of the Louvre) and the Tuileries park, will be occupied by this huge artistic and commercial fair, where museum directors, collectors and major names from the sector, meet and make business. www.fiac.com
One other cultural landmark of the season is the intriguing “Nuit blanche” which will be held on the 3rd of October. During one night, culture will take over the city’s squares, museums, schools and other public sites. They will be open for free, from nightfall till morning.
Finally, let’s not forget to mention all the exhibitions. Fall is usually quite a busy period for temporary exhibitions and all the museums have their hit. It would be impossible to list them all but here are a few:

How can we even mention art and Paris and the fall without talking about music ! When summer and its festivals are over, there comes the great concerts’ season (and still a few late festivals hoping for an Indian summer)!

Beaujolais nouveau has arrived! And it is always a good excuse to party! Most bars and cafés will be celebrating the new harvest and that will be on the 20th of November.
Wine amateurs can also head to the Porte de Versailles where will be held the Salon des Vignerons from the 26 to the 30th of November. More than thousand wines open to wine testing… Drink moderately… of course!
Let’s stay in the wine spirit and go to the famous Bal des Vendanges de la Butte Montmartre on the 11th of October from 3pm to 8pm. Yes, it’s not a myth, right in the heart of Paris, on the Butte Montmartre, you still have grapevines and they are being harvested and celebrated every year! 66 rue du Maréchal Leclerc, Paris 18.
The foire d’Automne will happen from the 23rd to the 1st of November at the park des expositions of the Porte de Versailles. You can jump in the Tramway right next to the hotel and i twill take you directly there! Deco, gastronomy, craft and well-being products, it’s all there! For the whole family!
Last but not least, for sports lovers? The Paris-Bercy Tennis Masters will start on the second week of November at the Palais Omnisport de Paris Bercy.

Qui dit automne dit aussi rentrée scolaire, et celle de Paris se caractérise par une véritable effervescence culturelle et festivalière. Pleine de surprises et d’énergie, la capitale démarre l’année académique sur les chapeaux de roues, et le moins que l’on puisse dire, c’est que ce ne sont pas les évènements qui manquent à cette période de l’année.
Tout d’abord, ne manquez pas de profiter d’un plaisir tout simple : se promener dans les parcs parisiens parés de leurs couleurs d’automne. La lumière qui se diffuse sur Paris à cette période de l’année est tout simplement sublime ! (s’il ne pleut pas bien sûr !)
UNE RENTREE CULTURELLE…
Le grand évènement de tous les automnes à Paris, sont les journées du patrimoine, les 19 et 20 septembre. Les monuments historiques de Paris ouvrent leurs portes gratuitement au public. Source text - French Construit sur l’emplacement des anciens entrepôts de vins de Bercy (un chai et des rails sont toujours visibles), le parc de Bercy, d’une surface de 14 hectares, était au XIIème siècle le siège d'une seigneurie, puis plus tard propriété d'une riche famille.
En 1845, le domaine est coupé en deux par des fortifications et démantelé. Le quartier se reconvertit alors en un vaste espace vinicole desservi par la Seine, où débarquent les fûts venus de Bourgogne.
Désaffectés dans les années 1970, les entrepôts sont abandonnés pendant quelques années avant que le quartier tout entier ne soit réaménagé.
À la surface des vieilles rues pavées, on entrevoit encore les traces de l’histoire locale : bornes usées, tronçons de voies ferrées ou chai reconstruit. Egalement, une magnifique maison blanche du siècle dernier et les charpentes altières de vénérables platanes.
Petit « détail » pittoresque : une vraie ruine de château maintenant conquise par les enfants.
Le jardin potager et la vigne sont un clin d’œil au commerce des vins qui animait jadis les quais de la Seine.
Le parc a ouvert en 1994 et se compose de trois jardins :
Le « Jardin romantique », avec bassins et poissons. Ce jardin se poursuit dans la partie orientale du parc que l'on rejoint par une passerelle.
Le belvédère, le tertre, la vallée ou encore le jardin du philosophe entourent un lac et son île.
Là se tient la Maison du Lac qui ouvre ses portes en hiver pour des expositions sur les jardins et la nature à Paris ainsi que des conférences-projections sur l'art des jardins.
« Les Parterres » est un jardin dédié aux activités du travail des plantes. Ils accueillent une roseraie, une vigne, un potager et une Maison du Jardinage. On y trouve 9 carrés de cultures inspirées des jardins compartimentés des anciennes résidences aristocratiques de Bercy. Le potager a une vocation pédagogique puisque ce sont les écoliers parisiens qui, jour après jour, le cultivent.
« Les Prairies » est formée de grands espaces de pelouses ombragées par de grands arbres. C'est dans cette partie que s'improvisent des matchs de football ou autres pique niques. Ce jardin s'achève sur une esplanade de terre battue au pied du POPB dont les marches servent de point de rassemblement des pratiquants de skateboard et de patins à roulettes.
Pour les plus sportifs, le Roller parc est en accès libre entre le POPB et le grand escalier.
Accès : métro Cour Saint-Émilion, le nom de cette dernière rappelant l'ancienne activité vinicole des lieux.
Translation - English The Bercy park was built on what used to be wine cellars! A wine storehouse and rails are still visible. The Park is 14 acres wide and was, at the XII century, the headquarters of a lordship before becoming the property of a wealthy family.
In 1845, the domain was split in two with fortifications and then dismantled. The neighborhood got transformed into a wide wine storehouse, served by the Seine river where all the wine from Bourgogne was unloaded.
Disused in seventies, the warehouses are abandoned for a few years until the neighborhood got completely renovated.
On the surface of the cobbled streets, one can still see remains of the local history: used markers, railway sections or wine storehouse. There is also a magnificent white house from the last century surrounded by plane trees.
Nice little colorful detail: the ruins of an old castle, now overtaken by the kids!
The kitchen garden and the vine are a little reminder of the trades which used to take place on the Seine river banks!
The park opened in 1994 and is composed of three distinct gardens:
The « Romantic garden » with ponds and fish. It continues to the other side of the road that you can reach thanks to the footbridge. There is also a cute lake with an island in the middle. The « Parterres » is a garden dedicated to gardening activities: kitchen gardens open to students, shaped designed bushes, flowers etc. The garden has a beautiful rose garden, a vineyard and a gardening house. One can find 9 squares of crop inspired by the compartmentalized gardens of the former Bercy aristocrats’ residences. The kitchen garden has an educational vocation and as such, is maintained by the Parisians students who, day after day, come to grow vegetables.
The « Prairies » are huge shady lawns where one can sit for a picnic or improvise a ball game with kids. This part ends on a beaten-earth esplanade at the foot of the POPB, the staircase of which serves as a rallye point for skateboarders and roller skaters.
For those who need more challenge, access to the nearby roller park is free. It is located between the big staircases and the Bercy event center.
Access: metro Cour Saint-Émilion – the name of the metro reminds of the past wine production that took place here.

Hello, my name is Sereen and I am a bi-national.
I was raised in the United States until the age of 8. We then moved to France where I stayed during my childhood. I studied in the UK for 4 years and then did a masters degree in Paris, France again.
Half of my family is American and the other half is French. I speak English and French within my family and have done so all my life.
I have travelled in various places for work with extended stays in some countries such as Spain. Passionate about languages and multiculturalism, I started my translation company after a few years ago. I have however been working as a translator for 17 years and now, as a audiovisual subtitler.
I have written and translated text for video game companies, hotels, travel agencies, language travel companies, fashion, design but also more technical texts in marquetry, photography, architecture.
