Hi,

I wonder, how precize is the number of quotes received for a project? We can see those at the end of the page of a job ad, for different language pairs. I was thinking, if i am really that good. :D

It takes forever for a job listing to open.

Short version: drop whatever you're doing and give us right now + for free a 5 minute recording and

make sure that it's studio quality (Quiet, low-noise environment)

also a basic mono recording won't do, nor any loss of quality due do compression - we want uncompressed WAV format only. (Compact Disc quality)

What is not to like in this 'opportunity' ... to work for free and then never hear from then again!

I could bet that buried somewhere in their T&Cs you will of course give them unlimited rights to do whatever they want with your 'free sample'.

Why would you need a spam / scam button? For such a great opportunity, not to be missed?

What will be the next 'opportunity'? Give us right now a 3000 word free sample translation and make sure it’s formatted ready for publishing?

It's now been a while that I receive - probably mass - messages in a new format via the ProZ directory, and I am really missing an option in these to mark them as spam (or rather scam for some).

Other missing features in these messages:
- Clear information about the sender
- The country they are based in
- Their BlueBoard rating

When I click on the company name in the message, I'm led to the user's page that sent the message instead of the company's page - all this on the new ProZ site.
On the user's page I have to click again on the company link in order to see the company's page, where their Blue Board ratings have been hidden on an anonymous tab. Nor is the Reviews element with the stars clickable. What a great improvement!

Hello,

My profile was transferred to the Remoto platform. So far, so good, but I'm encountering a conversion error for the è character in my first name, which appears in various places (profile, client reviews...).

I found no possibility to correct this error in my profile name. Can somebody point me to where that can happen?

If you look at the 'Services and offerings' tab of my 'classic' visitor profile you will see that there is no mention there of 'Copywriting'. The 'Services' row says "Services Translation, Editing/proofreading" That is a true reflection of the service offer I entered many years ago. There is, as you suggest, discrete mention of 'copywriting' in the 'Languages' area of the 'classic' profile, but there is no justification whatsoever for silently 'upgrading' that to suggest I offer it as a fully-fledged commercial 'Service'. In so doing - by overriding the form structure and moving stuff around - you are altering the semantics defined by the overall 'classic' profile structure and have ended up showing a Service offering which is false.

If I recall correctly (bear in mind I set up my profile many years ago...) when we include a language in the 'classic' 'Languages' section, we are obliged to attach at least one service to that language. When I added 'English monolongual' to my languages, it was only to ensure I saw English monoloingual Kudoz questions, and most certainly not because I was/am interested in selling any services in English only. And if I attached 'copywriting' to English monolingual, it was most likely done as a 'least worst' option amongst the services in the list. To see that combination - set up solely for the purpose of filtering Kudoz questions - turning up now as a part of my commercial Service offering is, to say the very least, unwelcome.

Just to clarify: I have not 'adjusted' any settings in either the 'classic' nor the 'new/next' profile editor since the date of the update to my Bio - and that was on 21 April 2025 (over a year ago). On the contrary, I decided to leave everything as I found it when I started investigating the problems reported here, to facilitate the work of your developers. The new 'City' field is exposed to 'Everyone' despite the 'Show to no one' filters that were originally, and still are, all set to hide everything expect the Country. IOW, the new 'City' field ignores/bypasses the relevant filter.

I hope that when the developers have got these things sorted out we can be confident that we do not end up over- or under-selling ourselves on account of the platform's desire to ...

Thank you for taking the time to document these issues so thoroughly.

I don't want to derail this thread, since the language issue being discussed here appears to be unrelated to the new profile itself, but I would like to briefly address the concerns you've raised.

Regarding services, there are actually two separate points here:

First, the service currently displayed as "Checking / Editing / Proofreading / Quality assurance (QA)" resulted from an effort to consolidate overlapping service listings —"Checking/editing" and "Editing/proofreading". However, your feedback is well taken: QA is often a distinct service associated with localization, MTPE and related workflows, and should not necessarily be grouped together with editing and proofreading. We've already updated the service taxonomy to separate QA from Editing / Checking / Proofreading again, and you should see that change reflected shortly.

Second, with respect to Copywriting, I do want to clarify that this was not generated by the new profile. It was already reported on your account in the classic profile data. One of the goals of the new profile is to present service information more consistently. Historically, some services were visible in the Services section while others could be reported through language pairs and related settings without being surfaced as clearly on the public profile. The new profile attempts to bring that information together in a single place, which can make some previously less-visible service entries more apparent.

On the privacy issue, thank you for both reporting it and identifying exactly where the mismatch originated. I can see that you have successfully adjusted the city visibility setting, but I totally agree that the more important question is whether visibility preferences are being interpreted consistently between the classic and new profile systems. I am escalating this for further review to ensure that profile data and privacy settings are parsed and displayed correctly across both platforms.

Finally, I want to stress that the concerns you raised here are distinct from the language issue discussed in this thread. Based on our investigation so far, the language changes reported by a small number of users do not appear to be related to the new profile. Still, reports like yours are very helpful in identifying areas where the presentation of profile data can be improved, and I appreciate the detailed examples you've provided.

While we have your attention here in this thread, I may I invite you to look at two other serious issues concerning 'mismatches' between the information displayed in the 'classic' and 'new/next' profiles?

Incorrect service offering
In my 'classic' profile, the services I offer are listed as: "Translation, Editing/proofreading".
In the 'new/next' display these are listed as "Translation, Checking / Editing / Proofreading / Quality assurance (QA), Copywriting".
So we see that two services have mysteriously been replaced by three.
Only 'Translation' has properly survived the move from classic to new/next.
When I set up my profile many years ago, 'Editing/proofreading' was a fair representation of one of the services I was actually called upon to carry out in those days. However, 'Checking / Editing / Proofreading / Quality assurance (QA)' is an unwarranted extrapolation from those services to englobe tasks associated with CATs, MT and AI which I have never offered in my professional activities.
The third service, 'Copywriting' has appeared out of the blue, and is something I have never claimed to provide as a freelance service (although I do have much professional experience in this area, and still do a lot of copywriting for my own purposes).

Publication of sensitive personal data that is supposed to be hidden from public view
In the 'address' area in the 'Contact information' section of the 'classic' profile editor, public visibility of three components of our address can be set independently, either to 'No one (for use in filters)' or to 'Everyone'. I have always had these options set to allow 'Everyone' to see my 'Country' and 'State/region/province' - but my street address has always been set to 'Show to no one'. Consequently, in the 'classic' profile display, everyone can see that I am based in Chile - and that is all they can see because I haven't entered anything for the 'State/region/province' field, and my street address is flagged as 'Show to no one'.
However, in the 'new/next' profile, all visitors can also see the name of the town where I live. This information has been taken from the third sub-field of the street address section of the 'classic' profile editor (as described above), where that whole set of three street address sub-fields is flagged as 'Show to no-one'. The mishandling - and publication - of part of my street address constitutes an unwarranted disclosure of my sensitive personal data (think GDPR and other privacy legislation...).

Further investigation shows that this illicit disclosure stems from the design of the 'location editing form' in the new profile editor. A new field labelled 'City' has been created within the 'State/region/province' section of the form and this field has been automatically pre-populated with the name of the city which I originally entered in the third sub-field of the street address section of the 'classic' profile editor. Since it has been added to the State/region/province' section of the form, the visibility of this new field should be governed by the visibility selector applying to that section, but although the section is flagged 'Show to no one' the 'City' field is displayed to everyone by default.

Long story short: by design, the 'new/next' profile editor automatically, by default, violates the confidentiality rules of the 'classic' profile editor.

Thank you for raising this.

First, I want to clarify that this was not an intentional or systemic change from Cantonese to Chinese. If anything, our goal is the opposite: to provide better ways for speakers of meaningfully different language variants to represent their skills accurately and for clients seeking those variants to find the right professionals. We certainly do not want to conflate distinct languages or language varieties.

As far as we can tell, this is not related to the new profile interface itself. The new profile is displaying the same underlying language data that was already stored in the system; it is not maintaining a separate set of language records.

We have received at least two other reports of unexpected language changes that appear to have occurred around the same time. We also released updates and additions to the site's language list during that period. With these two data points, we are investigating whether the changes to the language list may have a database issue and in turn have affected some language records.

If anyone else notices unexpected changes to their language information, please contact us through proz.com/help. Additional examples are very helpful in identifying the cause and ensuring that any issues are corrected.

We apologize for the confusion and really appreciate you taking the time to report this!

I have submitted those tickets. This can't be individual case if it is because of the automatic conversion when they were updating to the new interface, just like what you are suggesting. This is the whole point I am posting here to see if I was alone. I hope not.

In the old interface I am sure I was marked as native in Cantonese. It is very rude to box me into Chinese and mark me a native in Chinese which I am not and will never be. This hurt both my business and my reputations, and again this is very irrespectful.

I only started to be formally educated to speak Mandarin in Year 7, which I was 13 years old. I was born and raised in Hong Kong, where the official lanugage are Cantonese and English. Mandrain has never been something that I need to speak to survive in that place, not even in this year 2026. Ethnicity wise, I am Hongkonger. This is a formal word in Oxford dictionary.

Please can someone explain why you know that I am native in Chinese better than I know about myself?

I think they forgot something when they made the new system. I don't think it's because of AI coding. And if it is with AI coding, it could also have happened without AI coding, because it's probably a leftover of the previous system.

The message in your message made me rethink the message I was trying to send, because every message carries a message beyond the obvious message. When a message is unclear, the message gets lost, but a clear message ensures the message is received as the intended message. Sometimes the message behind the message matters more than the message itself, especially when the message gets emotional. In the end, every message is just a message, but the right message at the right time can change everything about the message.

I've received a message with the remark "You have a new message waiting" on the first line.
I guess that means I should find the message somewhere on Proz.com, but I don't find it.
The message contains the text of the message, and all links seem to be genuine.
The message also mentions "Profile messages are delivered via email and are not stored on ProZ."
But they way does it say "You have a new message waiting", as if I have to go to Proz.com to read it?
