Given that 2022 was my best year ever, I can only be optimistic. I can afford to drop the clients who pay less and who don't bother to let me know when my bill contains an error and cannot be settled. And hopefully the clients I've worked hard to please will keep coming back for more.

Assessment? Dec 27, 2022

Vodka, drudgery and no cash. That's my assessment of how 2023 will look like.

Haven't thought about it Dec 27, 2022

I am positive by nature and I’ll take whatever comes my way. In 2023, I’ll do what I have been doing for more years than I care to admit: be grateful to my long-standing customers for their trust and at the same time offer a warm welcome to new clients. “Que será, será…”

Neutral Dec 27, 2022

Based on the past I should be positive, but I really wonder to what extent the global crises will have an impact next year. The first 3 days of 2023 are already fully booked, so the start will at least not be a disastrous one. I've actually had less promising starts in years without any crisis. Curious.

Less (or none) job - more time for translation of one's own choice, for 'non monetary money' )) The coin has two sides )

I would argue the opposite i.e. that straight-line extrapolation of a trend is seldom a good idea!

In my case 2022 was a good year, and I expect the global economy to struggle more in 2023, so I'm assuming a year-on-year decline for my business.

Same old I guess Dec 28, 2022

Unless I decide to make a change; I'm beginning to want a change (which happens to me every now and then). The projects on which we are working are not expected to stop anytime soon, so my expectations for the year are pretty mundane – given that the wind of change in my head doesn't get strong enough. I translate a lot of welding-related stuff, but the idea of doing the things I write about is quite tempting, welding is cool. I know, however, that the amount of work I'll have to do to master this trade is forbidding. I could probably afford to be more change-friendly if I were a bit youngerCollapse

More boring post-editing Dec 30, 2022

I used to love my job, but all I get asked to do these days is post-editing. As hard as I try to be positive, I'm not enjoying it. I have found myself a job as a journalist with a local newspaper and am moving over to writing again as opposed to translating. I think I'll look for more blogging and copywriting.

Same here with the MTPE. I'm getting more and more of it. MTPE is more tedious than translation.
