Hi all!
I'm currently working on a text about the 'Grupo El Paso', an influential avant-garde movement in Madrid and Paris, which began in the 1950s. The speaker here is Martín Chirino, a preeminent Spanish sculptor:
Aquí es de donde arranca mi obra. En la tierra inestable que piso, ella es una referencia sólida. Pretendo concebirla en el equilibrio y la serenidad. La sitúo en el paisaje infinito, como el árbol o la piedra. En esta similitud, mi obra no es un gesto sino una presencia. Se engaña quien piense que, por caminos de exquisiteces, voy a la evasión. Por eso ella persigue la simplicidad, carente de adherencias y elementos postizos. Intenta fluir en el espacio creciendo desde dentro. Es orgánica en sus formas. No se desarrolla por aditamentos. Simplemente se muestra así, como es, por necesidad e ***ímpetu interno***.

I think he is basically saying that the works themselves have internal vigour/energy/momentum that are in themselves an impetus. I was just reading his website
