French term

sas imprimante

French to English Tech/Engineering Engineering: Industrial bio-decontamination
Hello,

I'm translating a doc about bio-decontamination with H2O2
For the procedure, there are certain objects to be removed from the rooms to be bio-decontaminated and some that can be left such as "papier plastifié" and "sas imprimante", does anybody know what "sas" is here?

Thank you.

I think you're right, Tony. It's not the "matériel à laisser en salle", it's the "zone de stockage habituelle". If you want to put that as an answer, it would get my vote.

You could just say "area" for "sas". It can mean airlock, but that may not be the case here, even though it's about decontamination - a "sas" can also be a vestibule, or a small room connecting two other rooms.
Louisa Tchaicha (asker) Apr 17, 2018:
this table is called PREPARATION DU MATERIEL DES ZONES ISO5 et ISO6 AVANT UNE BIODECONTAMINATION, so it's just "equipment " and not an airlock or anything like that.
Louisa Tchaicha (asker) Apr 17, 2018:
@Tony No, I got the wrong end of the stick, it's actually the matériel "à laisser en salle, ou dans zone de stockage habituelle" and here is the rest of the list "Papier plastifié
Bannettes vides
Sas imprimante : papier et papier dans tiroir
Affichage plastifié (les retirer des murs)"

@ Asker Are you SURE this is an "object to be removed from the room"? It sounds to me more like a whole little room in its own right, like some kind of 'printer lobby'? The actual term needed will no doubt depend on the particular type of establishment this is in.

Yes, according to the link.
Note from asker:
Thanks Patricia, so this is a type of printer?

neutral chris collister : I don't think so. S.A.S. is like "Ltd", or "Inc.", hence Novexx solutions S.A.S. "Sas" would have a different meaning in your context, though clearly involving printers.

neutral philgoddard : It means sociéte par actions simplifiée.

disagree Tony M : In addition, that wouldn't reflect the normal word order. But as Chris says, this is nothing to do with a brand that might be called 'SAS', and taking it to 'label printer' is frankly wildly over-translating.

printer lobby area

The best translation for 'sas' will depend on the configuration of the actual room-spaces involved.

I'm convinced this is just another of the spaces being discussed; especially with the little clue of that colon after 'sas imprimante'

Thanks, Phil!
neutral Debora Blake : I don't think the use of "lobby" is correct.

There's really no way we can tell without proper context; but 'lobby' is certainly one translation of 'sas', where there is not actual technical function as an 'airlock'; of course, there are several other possibilities too...
