Discussion

Ziad Alghamdi Sep 1, 2009:
to Mr. Mohamed What machine translation that I always seem to resort to? And who's the professor I'd better check it with?

You see I respect you a lot, and therefore, you're not worth another word in this matter.

Don't judge a book by its cover, and it's true that you shouldn't judge other people of how they translate, interpret or how they say things, we have all been through many experiences. We are often misinterpreted of some people. And you too, keep checking Mr. Mohamed, but not with your professor. Check it with your EXPERIENCE.

Here it says 'committed for', and since it is the UK government I would be inclined to agree with it. However, I have found 'committed to' as well, although not has often, and in dubious publications. Hope this helps.
MD Taher Sep 1, 2009:
to mr ziad ghamdi, it seems that you always resort to machine translation, so enjoy it. you'd better check with your professor.
Ziad Alghamdi Sep 1, 2009:
To Mr. Mohamed T. This is variance of language with different functional contexts. You're a translator, and so Am I. So, the issue here is not what I'll find, it's what I think is right, and what I find more appropriate; based on the context.

The least thing I can show you here is searching for "committed to trial" in Google, or in other search engine. Try a descent legal dictionary.
MD Taher Sep 1, 2009:
To Mr Ziad Alghamdi, if u look it up, u'll find out: (committed to) NOT (committed for)
He's been committed to prison for fraud.
