· Preoperative and operating procedures, including knowledge of surgical techniques and proper selection and placement of the nail, are important considerations in the successful utilization of this device.
· Exercise care when using the cannulated awl, as it is extremely sharp.
· Trimming of the nail may be done below or above the skin. If done below the skin, inspect and correct sharply trimmed ends to prevent tendon injury.
· Ensure the nail is cut distal to the bevel/taper located near the insertion handle to avoid difficulty when sliding the locking sleeve over the tip of the nail.
· Use fluoroscopy when utilizing the locking sleeve to prevent unintentional penetration of the opposite cortex.
· The use of the implantable nail cap over the cut end of the nail may reduce the risk of soft tissue irritation.

guardando le foto ed in base alla definizione inglese verrebbe spontaneo chiamarlo
impugnatura di inserimento/inserzione.
Tuttavia, non trovi riscontri per quello.
Controllando qualche articolo italiano che riporta la tecnica ho trovato mandrino cannulato. In implantologia uno strumento del genere, per l'inserimento di viti endoossee , viene appunto chiamato mandrino.

Mi spiace Laura, non trovo un riferimento in italiano.
Io forse tradurrei con impugnatura di inserimento/inserzione, ma e' comunque un azzardo.
In un elenco di forniture per ospedale ho trovato insertion handle in inglese, ma non c'e' modo di sapere se si riferisca allo stesso tipo di prodotto.
