Is "à coulée de" something like "arising from..." here? Or is this to do with "coulée" as in "casting"? I think I understand what they're getting at but am searching for the best phrase.

My reading here is that the taraudages, being bare metal, tend to signal their presence by leaving rust stains down the outside of the piece. Of course, I don't know what the rest of the text is about, so I could be barking up completely the wrong lamp-post....
