français term

flammé (here)

français vers anglais Autre Botanique Flower colour
In a cyclamen catalogue, listing colours of varieties. Example of context: "Saumon flammé.
Couleur très attendue qui complète la gamme des flammés XXX® en se joignant au violet et au magenta." I know that a fabric described as "flammé" is slubbed, and that the word can describe a kind of marbled effect in clay, but any ideas how you could describe this effect in flowers? What about using the word "marbled"? Thanks in advance for any help.

Discussion

Gabrielle Leyden Apr 23, 2014:
dogs & horses I believe "flammé" refers to the "tongues of flame" that you see around the mouth, on the flanks, etc. on otherwise dark coats
DLyons Apr 23, 2014:
"variegated petals" certainly get hits.
