looking up culasse in a fr. dictionary shows that before meaning a "cylinder head" it meant the "breech" of a gun... i.e. the rear part... but to me it looks like there might be a specialist word here

So in a way, it's a bit like the breech of a gun. Only you have to able to shoot up the barrel of someone else's gun that has a breech enabling the bullet to be removed.
