Along the same lines as Brigitte on this one I think what is needed is a brainstorming session from which you can select and propose a number of possible titles. The final decision will be with the publisher, but of course, you'll be there to make sure it makes sense.

A couple of good suggestions may come up with something around the idea of shared accommodation, which is how I understand the way you are reading the French, with the benefit of fuller context.

That's my experience. I translated a number of non-fiction books and made suggestions regarding the title but the publishers always had their own ideas. Therefore I'd say: don't worry too much.

Agree with Phil regarding literal translation for book titles; these very rarely work in the target language. If this were a novel or a story, I'd suggest reading the thing right through before choosing your own apt title. But here, it seems that you have a pretty good idea of the subject matter and are therefore in a position to come up with some ideas of your own, perhaps related to cliffs, habitat, co-habitation and Phil's "coexistence"

Does it have a subtitle? I think that will be a factor in whether you stay close to the French or not. The cover of the book has to give a clear picture of what it's about.

If I understand your question correctly, it should read "Falaises partagées", not ""Shared cliffs". I assume this means how humans and birds can coexist on the cliffs. "Shared cliffs" is correct English, though I don't think it's a very enticing title, or that it conveys a very clear idea of what the book is about. You could say "Sharing the cliffs", but I'd be tempted to make up something different in English.
