Portuguese term

chamamento da envolvência

Portuguese to English Other Tourism & Travel Gastronomy
This is about the food at a hotel in Portugal. I can't seem to come up with a way of expressing this in English that sounds right to me.

Se conseguir resistir ao **chamamento da envolvência** que aqui se vive, divirta-se a saborear Portugal sem sair do Hotel.

Discussion

Amy Duncan (X) (asker) Nov 22, 2006:
Really, the first time I read it through, I thought "what the hell?" too...I don't get the feeling this place is in some quaint little village, though...it sounds more like a Club Med kinda place!
Amy Duncan (X) (asker) Nov 22, 2006:
Ha ha, yes, it's hard to brag about something without sounding silly sometimes! :o)
Clara Duarte Nov 22, 2006:
I see. 'Envolvência que aqui se vive' made me thought it was something to do with the environment of the hotel that was attractive. The people who write hotel literature and brochures are very creative when trying to say nice things about hotels.. ;)
Amy Duncan (X) (asker) Nov 22, 2006:
Clara I was confused by this at first, too, but I think the "envolvência" refers to the surroundings of the hotel, that is, what lies beyond the hotel, such as swimming pools, golf courses, riding trails, etc., etc.

luring environment

A frase em Português não faz sentido, porque se a pessoa consegue resistir ao chamamento mantém-se no hotel em vez de sair? Na negativa já faria algum sentido, mas também não era a mim que convencia ;)

...if you can resist the hotel's luring environment...

It's just a suggestion.

"Luring sorroudings" sounds catchy. It just strikes me as odd talking about 'envolvência' to mean surroundings belonging to the hotel's services, instead of 'facilities' for instance. It just makes the reader wonder 'what the hell?!'.

Wait... now it makes sense. If you can resist the surroundings outside the hotel. Probably the pictoresque village in the middle of nowhere, if in Portugal.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I wish I could split the points, because I used "lured by the surroundings" -- since the key word was "lured" I picked Clara's. "

Obrigado, Clara. Quando comecei a responder, não havia nem sua resposta nem as notas. Após responder, vi a nota da Amy. Também foi minha primeira interpretação.

winsome surroundings

A cliche with plenty of use in travel-type articles, e.g.,
