Sângele oxigenat este pompat în întregul organism prin artera aortă care porneşte din ventriculul stâng. Artera aortă are trei porţiuni : porţiunea ascendentă, arcul aortic (crosa aortei) şi porţiunea descendentă. Din porţiunea ascendentă pornesc arterele coronare.
