University budget planning
I'm translating a document on strategic and budget planning for a large university. The section I'm doing right now is a table, so I don't have much context. It's a calendar of actions to be taken by different entities involved in the planning. In a column with the heading of "Proceso de Presupuesto," I find this entry:
Carga del presupuesto a las cuentas de las unidades
Now, the month is July, which is the start of the fiscal year, and the people responsible for this action are the Budget Director and Assistant Budget director. The "unidades" are academic and administrative units, i.e. colleges, schools, and offices, all of which need money to operate. It seems logical that allocated funds would be going INTO the accounts, but why "carga"? Why not "deposit"?
Most important, of course, how do I write this in English, with the proper financial terminology?
Sorry--most of this current job is about education and university government, and I can handle that, but I'm weak in business and finance. Any help would be appreciated.

"cargar datos" means to load data. Costs can then be charged to the budget amount.

Comment: "Thank you, patinba. "Post" was the word that I needed and couldn't think of. Also, your analogy of "cargar datos" helped me understand the original. I appreciate your help."

Actually, "budget charged to the units' accounts" would probably do - no need for "budgeted amount" or "budgeted amounts". I understand your point about the money being allocated/given to these units, but think that "budget charged to" just means they're referring to the amounts corresponding to those units. See the following examples:

Your document may be distinguishing between the budget for general administration for the whole university vs. budget allocated to specific units. My first two references don't illustrate this, but I think the last two do.

Looking more carefully at your question as well as at patinba's answer, I would now say "posting of the budget to the units' accounts". It's an action.
Of course, the verb "posting" is thanks to patinba.

Either:
- posting of the budget to the units' accounts
or
- charging of the budget to the units' accounts
I think 'charging' would work too. The university's budget process may charge some of its expenses to the different units' accounts. The units' accounts would form part of the university's overall budget, and this "charging" would just refer to the way the expenses are recorded. However, this would not be a part of budget planning so much as part of how their management of the budget would work

During the council’s regular session yesterday, Councilor Lea Japson sponsored two resolutions charging the proposed P10-million budget to the account for City-sponsored activities.
Despite their queries, the council approved Japson’s first resolution that charges P3.9 million to City-sponsored activities, for the weeklong celebration.

You're welcome, Jane. I totally agree that patinba deserves the points for coming up with "posting".

Note from asker:
Jenniferts, thank you so much for your quick original response and for all your added research. Please see the discussion entry above; I wish very much that I could have split the points between the two of you. I'm grateful for your time and your help. |
Discussion
However, I can't, and since I ended up writing "post budget to units' accounts," I think I have to award the points to patinba.
My heartfelt thanks to both.
