I'm translating an art catalogue and this word has already come up several times. So far, I've been translating it as 'volumes', which sometimes works but on other occasions just doesn't do it for me. Other words that occur to me are 'bulk', 'block', 'structure'.
Can anyone think of other terms that might fit here?
The context is:
"Este paisaje, un puerto, podría encuadrarse en la última producción de Peinado, los años setenta. Las edificaciones portuarias son reducidas a nítidos *volúmenes* en los que el color, sin gradaciones, ocupa los planos con una delicadeza propia de la acuarela. La composición se equilibra con la inclusión de un cuerpo oscuro a la derecha, disminuyendo el peso de las construcciones de la izquierda. El color, primando los tonos claros y fríos, maximiza la luminosidad, convirtiendo lo que podría haber sido una vista industrial y opresiva en un lírico remanso de paz."
Can anyone think of other terms that might fit here?

In this case you can use "forms" or "shapes", but other times I would use "volume".
