Spanish term

presentación

Spanish to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
I'm translating a document for Pfizer international and it's regarding their "política de viajes y gastos de representación"

The translation memory I was provided with states that Presentación should be translated as Entertainment, but something seemed incorrect about this and I just wanted to verify.

Later in the document the phrase "Frecuencia de presentación" appears. Not sure if this should be Frequency of Entertainment or Presentation Frequency.

Have any of you every seen presentación used to refer to "entertainment"?

Thanks!

Robert Long (asker) Aug 30, 2012:
Sorry again for the Typo. It's Presentación.... And I totally agree with you Jenni.
philgoddard Aug 30, 2012:
Your question doesn't make sense as it stands. Representación means entertainment, presentación means something else, but you haven't given enough context for us to know what.
Jenni Lukac (X) Aug 30, 2012:
Note that it's "representación," not "presentación".
Jenni Lukac (X) Aug 30, 2012:
"Entertainment" is usually a euphemism for "wining and dining" that adds up to lobbying. You might want to use the extended term "business entertainment and hospitality". It's "entertainment" in the sense of entertaining guests, not putting on a show. Example:www.hmrc.gov.uk/.../entertainment.... HM Revenue - 2009

Vania Campanella Aug 30, 2012:
I cant see the connection between gastos de representacion and frecuencia de presentacion Se trata de un medicamento?
Robert Long (asker) Aug 30, 2012:
Sorry, yes, Presentación. That's really all the context I have. It's European Spanish, and the whole document is discussing the company's policy of reimbursing employees for travel related expenses, meals, how in-room movies are dealt with, per diems, etc.
e_marisa Aug 30, 2012:
You mentioned 'Presentación' with 'P' with reference to your customer recommendation.
Your question is about 'Frecuencia de presentación'..
We need more context from you or your customer to really help you.
James A. Walsh Aug 30, 2012:
Some more context would help... Meaning the ST context (in Spanish) surrounding the term in question.

business entertainment (and hospitality) expenses

As per my comment.
Peer comment(s):

agree James A. Walsh : Very confused by the "representación/presentación" thing going on here, but Robert obviously has the broader context, and seems happy, so you have my vote, Jenni! Hope you're well :)

Thanks, James. I just did a few translations on the subject of lobbying. I've seen "representation expenses" used as well, but it wouldn't be clear to all readers.

clothing allowance

I'm basing this solely on the reference below. I've also found it to mean literally "presentation expenses" for businesspeople who have to go out in the world and present their products to potential clients. This actually makes some sense in the pharmaceutical world. My sister's a pharmacist in the States and I know a lot of wining and dining goes on between pharm company representatives and their potential clients. In that case it would be both presentation expenses and entertainment expenses, right? One and the same...
But still, I humbly submit clothing allowance based on my reference below.
