roofing

An igneous intrusion is often said to have a "roof" which is formed by the melting/stoping of the underlying rock.

These quartzite blocks could be the remains of the roof. Otherwise - why are they there? Tectonics?

So... in the NE, large quartzite blocks are found roofing the intrusion.

as if (they were) suspended ceilings

Tough metaphor! This is my best attempt. I hope it is useful.

neutral Chris Ellison : I know what you mean, I only meant that if a technical word exists it would be better to use it in a scientific report such as this one of lbotto's. I didn't want to criticise your trans (note the neutral status - no offence intended ;)).

Nevertheless it seems the author is doung his best to describe what he sees through metaphors, don't you think? As such, I say my translation has merit. Don't let the trees block the forest, hey?
