This term comes up a lot in this translation, normally I use "decode" or something similar. But I'm wondering if there is a better industry-specific term I should/could be using.
Here are some exaamples of how it is used - it essentially refers to the way in which/extent to which focus group respondents understand the elements and core messages of an advert:
"Buen sabor (expresividad rostro) se decodifica de manera clara"
"Las historias creativas facilitan la integración de los beneficios de producto que se deseaban transmitir con esta campaña y se decodifican en general de forma clara"
"Explícitamente, sabor inesperado no es un beneficio que surja ni se decodifique"
"Lo que se decodifica es BUEN SABOR/ APETITOSIDAD"
"La decodificación “sabor inesperado/ sorprendente" no se transmite desde ninguna de las rutas testadas."

You could maybe use 'interpret'.
To 'interpret' findings/results, etc., is often used in marketing-related material, and it's less formal or robotic than 'decipher', 'decode', etc.

A more rational response would be not to 'interpret' such behaviour as malicious. My post was not intended to be devious, merely helpful. Apologies for being in a rush and not looking your post. Carmen, you've made your point, now move on.

I am merely adding to the list (interpret, deduce, percieve, detect) but I often hear of respondents 'picking up' details or 'reading'l certain slants. 'Content coding' is used in the business but I share your hesitation about respondents actually 'decoding' pack messages
