@David I was thinking something similar. As you said re "warm welcome/greetings" Then "My name is..." The only slight query in my mind is still whether to keep a hint of the original culture in terms of the personality of the speaker and whether that is important to the context of the conference depending on what it is about. i.e. it may not want to sound too Anglo-Saxon or northern European

@schmetterlich Are you wanting to keep something in for "los saluda", or is your preference to dispense with it? It does seem that if he is already offering "un saludo cordial", the sentences could be run together? Or saludo only needs to be used once?

@Oscar "Salutes you from..." makes sense and is valid in English, but it sounds rather formal (being heavily associated with the military). It's somewhat ceremonial. (Or it could be used tongue-in-cheek, with a twinkle in the eye, a little hint of irony, for fun.)

@Domini Like you, I'd prefer to include the "saluda" in some way, especially since it's already brief in the source. Sometimes Spanish greetings need to be pared down for English-speaking audiences, from something very warm, formal, or elegant, to something more brief and matter-of-fact. But in this case I think it's totally appropriate to leave it in. It's already brief. That said, I think it's okay to leave it out too.

@Kristina I agree that he is not necessarily from there. Seems to me that the 'saluda' needs to be included somehow rather than just "speaking to you from...". Perhaps also to incorporate something of the character and provenance of the speaker? In terms of his personal tone /character and culture I mean.

To me the use of "desde" means not necessarily that he is from that city (though he may be that as well), but that he is in that city at the moment. "This is Dr. XXX sending you greetings from...(city)"

Maybe "This is Dr. XXX speaking to you from..." (If it needs to be warmer, more neutral, more or less formal, of course different wording would apply. Here I'm only talking about preserving the piece of it implying that he is actually in that city at the moment of speaking.)

Just a suggestion.

Depending on the rest of the context I would probably twist the sentence around to incorporate this in a way that sounds natural in spoken English
