Spanish to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature Literature.
I would like to know the best translation of this phrase from Latin American Spanish into American English. Translator colleagues from Spain, feel free to send me your suggestions as well. This is a translation about the story of Ali Baba and the 40 thieves.
Is okay to translate it as The crack was seen before his eyes? or the crack was seen before the eyes?

Here is the full paragraph for your review:

Toni Castano Dec 19, 2021:
@Yugoslavia No need for your apologies. But after seeing the outcome of this Kudoz and the consequences of it (glossary entry), I have just confirmed what I knew before. Goodbye forever.
yugoslavia (asker) Dec 15, 2021:
Apologies. Hi Toni,
I have just got your message. I was also thinking the same when I was reading the Spanish text. I'm sorry about the delay responding. I lost my internet connection for around 30 hours.
Toni Castano Dec 13, 2021:
@Cecilia Yes, sure, and this is why I have posted my agree to your interpretation.
Cecilia Gowar Dec 13, 2021:
Of course, that is exactly what I said in my answer, below :)
I also searched for a correct version without finding it.
Toni Castano Dec 13, 2021:
Nonsensical source "La grieta se vio" makes no sense to me, it is just (another) error in the series of errors we have been seeing over the last weeks.
Try this source (if you wish):

You will not find many sources on the Internet with this version, true, but it is the right one in my view.

Thank you, Marian.
neutral Cecilia Gowar : I do not think that is the meaning, although the original Sp is badly written

the (a) crack (finally) opened up in front of the woodcutter

¨A crack finally opened up in front of the woodcutter/the woodcutter`s eyes¨...
