spot varnishing

This refers to an area of the page which is varnished. Generally applied to a photo, callout, headline or other element to be subtly but visibly differentiated and stressed.
Note from asker:
OK. That's the translation I intended to propose!

agree Taña Dalglish : Seems so, although the more common terms are "barniz directo"/"máscara de barniz". www.upadiseno.cl/.../Unidad_IV_Termis_y_acabados_b_01.ppt & www.proz.com/.../1508186-spot_varnish.html

color/barniz directo is spot colour/varnish. See Indesign colour config. a Mask is not in wide useage for this. See: http://desktoppub.about.com/cs/softwaretutorials/ht/spot_var...
