Como é óbvio, o facto de a frase dizer "no próximo ano" já coloca o sentido implícito no futuro e frase fica mais natural e correcta assim.
Um "lugar que nos fica pequeno" é não faz qualquer sentido em potuguês.

: Sim, e o verbo "quedar" demonstra um sentido de transformação e não de permanência de algo, que é exatamente o sentido do verbo "ficar" do português.
