One major obstacle preventing the successful and efficient absorption of large amounts of vitamin C is acid rejection. This occurs when vitamin C enters the alkaline environment of the lower digestive tract. The acid rejection by the intestines can cause inflamed tissues, flatulence, diarrhoea and discomfort resulting in minimal absorption.
