Yo siempre había escuchado "dársele vuelta", pero el María Moliner dice "volverse":

volverse la tortilla inf. *Invertirse la situación recíproca de las personas; particularmente, pasar de una situación política a otra en la que mandan los que antes eran oprimidos.
