Dutch term

raveelconstructie

Dutch to English Tech/Engineering Architecture floor construction
The term appears in a design proposal to be submitted to an architectural competition for the renovation of a prestigious building in Brussels to be opened as a new museum. The immediate context is:
Maken van een sparing in de vloer op iedere bouwlaag. Hierdoor ontstaat een vide aan de achterzijde van de middenvleugel. Rond de sparing wordt een nieuwe raveelconstructie geplaatst om de vloerrand te ondersteunen.

I have come across this term before.
Haslinghuis: Bouwkundige termen gives for ravéling: samenstel van balken round een gat in een balklaag
Kluwer: Bouwkunde woordenboek gives the following translations:
raveling - trimming
raveelbalk - trimmer, trimming beam, trimming joist
Van Dale EN-NL gives as translation for trimmer:

Answer.com gives the following explanation:
Architecture: trimmer
1. A piece of timber inserted in a roof, floor, wooden partition, or the like, to support a header which in turn supports the ends of the joists, rafters, studs, etc.
2. A small horizontal beam, as in a floor, into which the ends of one or more joists are framed; often named from the place of use as a hearth trimmer, stair trimmer, etc.

I think this is the appropriate term in English. See ref for previous Kudoz entry from NL>FR.
