I found the translation 'embossed holes'. Any thoughts on this?

knocked-out holes, knock-outs, popped-out holes
Knocked-out holes or simply knock-outs, or, as in Copheoske's reference, popped-out holes. Just google them, katiebeb.

@Katiebeb: Yes, you're quite right. I realised that after anwering, but hadn't gotten around to adding that information to my answer yet.

Note from asker:
Thanks. After a bit more research, I think 'hole knockouts' refers to this type of hole before it is knocked out, whereas 'knocked-out holes' would describe the holes after they have been opened up, so this would be a good translation here. |

punched holes
Thin material (pressed steel mounting brackets in this case) is punched rather than drilled. Sometimes called pre-punched holes which IMO, is an unnecessary distinction.
Some holes are semi-punched and need to be popped out before fitting. This is common when there are two or more possible hole positions, and only one is required. These are also sometimes called pre-pressed holes (see reference comments).

: Pre-punched would seem the best option to me given the context.

: I don't think this covers it. Punched holes would apply to any holes produced by punching, i.e. also holes that don't need popping out. Semi-punched would fit the bill in many cases, but not if the hole sites are produced in a molding process for example.

Ref. voor pre-pressed hole
Embossed hole lijkt mij een prima vertaling. Ik vind ook een referentie voor pre-pressed hole.

Breaking of a hole for the lock on the left-hand side: An oval opening of the same size as on the right-hand side of the GW is pre-pressed here. Break the hole with a flat screw driver.

'Embossed hole' slaat natuurlijk alleen op het type gat. De term geeft niet aan dat het gat doorgedrukt is.

: with pre-pressed but embossed usually means an impression but not punched all the way through the material.

Thanks Tina. What you describe is IMHO the exactly the type of hole that is meant here. The point is that the term that is being asked is the name of that kind of hole after it is opened up or "popped out".
