Hi,

is "screw clamp" correct here?

Thank you

hollow screw

The screw is not solid, rather has a cavity inside, in essence.

Your suggestion 'screw clamp' would definitely not be right here! The word order tells us that 'alvéole' qualifies 'vis', not the other way round; so it is a '[something] screw', not a 'screw [something]'

Here is a webpage where you can see what it looks like:

http://www.ecataleg.be/fr/produit/037576

And from p129 of that manufacturer's UK catalogue:

http://www.legrand.co.uk/downloads/Legrand-industrial-and-po...

you can find their official name for the equivalent item.

Note the fact that it is screwed in is soemwhat secondary; they key point is that it has a socket.

Do note, however, that in some other contexts, the term seems to be used simply for a 'socket-head screw' — which may possibly be the term you require here. Context?
Peer comment(s):

agree kashew : Good research, T. Is this for "fiche de test standard avec vis alvéole" ? There may be other types? More items in the Fr cat. than the EN.

Thanks, J! 'Standard test socket' is achieved by means of a 'vis alvéole'; I think L/G has extra items for FR market only (different wiring regs.!)

We cannot be so literal, you know as well as I do that facile word-for-word translation often doesn't work in technical; and just look at the references, which are quite conclusive, at least for that one manufacturer's products.
