Swedish to English Bus/Financial Investment / Securities

I'm doing a review where the translator is excellent but translated "ägarföretag" as investor.

I was sure it was a mistake but searches on Internet show him to be right.

I simply would like a confirmation that this is correct and how this Swedish word can come to mean "investor" rather than something like "holding company" or even "investment company"?

It just seems so absurd to me.
