I use DeepL to support me with particularly long and convoluted sentences. It is invaluable when it comes to Legalese, since I can simply not seem to wrap my mind around this unnatural "language".

I use Deepl very, very occasionally (when I am tired) as a very rough draft just to speed the typing up a bit.

Always (but only if the client specifically allows it), and I meet more and more translators who admit to it. It used to be something that you don't admit to except to yourself, but attitudes are changing.
It almost sounds as if the poll creator thinks that MT is something that came with PEMT, and that some translators are now discovering that they can also use MT with non-PEMT work... when in fact it was PEMT that came later.

I always use MT because my MT engine is offline and local to my computer only. And I mostly translate articles already publicly available on the internet. I am a translator either. The one who can use tools. Using MT won't prevent you from being a translator and using your translation skills. You still need to use your head to check and edit translations as need may be.

I don't work for this particular crew any more, but I dabbled in PEMT a while ago, with a client that has an MT engine that is rubbish. Once or twice, there was material with segments that were such garbage, I admit I whacked them through DeepL to have something half-decent to work with.
Is that what you meant?

You see Philip, this is where you're going wrong. One does not just "pluck" a quill from a passing bird. It is precisely this kind of slovenly and careless attitude to work that is ruining the profession. Unless the feather is extracted using a pair of silver tweezers from the wing of a lesser white-fronted goose by the light of a full moon, you may as well not bother.
I expected better of you.
