A float is the term for the money in a cash register at the beginning of the shift, usually made up of coins and low denomination banknotes to enable change to be given to customers. Retail businesses often start each shift with a regular float amount, eg £100 in every register. In English it is sometimes called the "Starting float" or "Starting Bank" (in the US). It is abbreviated to Float in our device as it helps to keep the text short for labels on screen and printout. While its not a term used in popular conversation, it is very important and well known to people who work with our devices. |
