Salutare tuturor,

Transmit mai departe rugamintea unei amice traducatoare si ea - o prietena de-ale ei, romanca studenta la Valdosta State University, realizeaza un experiment in cadrul unui curs de psihologie si are nevoie de participarea unui numar de 20 de traducatori.

Cercetarea este intitulata "The Art of Translating: Mood and Efficiency for Translators Working with Their Native Language Target". Testul nu ar lua foarte mult (maxim 1 ora) si, evident, participarea ar fi voluntara (fara plata).

Vreun doritor? Eu mi-am exprimat deja disponibilitatea de a o ajuta in aceasta cercetare. Din pacate, nu vad vreo optiune de a atasa un fisier, asa ca am sa redau mai jos mesajul cercetatoarei, luat dintr-un document word:

VALDOSTA STATE UNIVERSITY
Consent to Participate in Research

You are being asked to participate in a research project entitled “The Art of Translating: Mood and Efficiency for Translators Working with Their Native Language Target.” This research project is being conducted by Codrina Cozma, an undergraduate student pursuing a minor in Psychology at Valdosta State University. The researcher has explained to you in detail the purpose of the project, the procedures to be used, and the potential benefits and possible risks of participation. You may ask the researcher any questions you have to help you understand this project and your possible participation in it. A basic explanation of the research is given below. Please read this carefully and discuss with the researcher any questions you may have.

Purpose of the Research: This study involves research. The purpose of the study is to measure the mood and efficiency of the translators who translate into their native language.

Procedures:
If you agree to participate in this experiment, you will be randomly assigned to either a control group or an experimental group. The control group will be populated with translators who will be required to translate from a sample text into a language other than their own language. The experimental group will be made up of translators who will be asked to translate the same text provided to the control group into their native language.

If you participate in this experiment, you will be asked to perform the following activities:
1. Complete and email back to the researcher the demographics questionnaire sent to you along with this informed consent. Your submission of the demographics questionnaire will be considered an act of acceptance to participate in this study. Expected duration: 7 minutes.
2. Pre-test: Email the products of step a) and b) below to the researcher by the deadline mentioned by the researched in her Pre-test email.
a. Translate, into your native language, as much as possible in 10 minutes, from a text in your secondary language provided by the researcher. Required duration: 10 minutes.
b. Fill out the mood test provided by the researcher. Expected duration: 10 minutes.
3. Post-test: Email the products of step a) and b) below to the researcher by the deadline mentioned by the researched in her Post-test email.
a. Translate, into your native language, as much as possible in 10 minutes, from a text in your secondary language provided by the researcher. You will be asked to follow exactly the instructions related to how to perform this translation. Required duration: 10 minutes.
b. Fill out the mood test provided by the researcher. Expected duration: 10 minutes.
Total estimated time required for participation in this experiment: 47 minutes.

There are some details about the study that you are not being told in advance to ensure unbiased performance on your part. When your participation is over, the study will be explained to you in full detail, and all of your questions will be answered. At that time, you can decide whether or not you want your information to be used in the study.

Possible Risks or Discomfort:
Although there are no known risks associated with these research procedures, it is not always possible to identify all potential risks of participating in a research study. However, Valdosta State University has taken reasonable safeguards to minimize potential but unknown risks.

Potential Benefits:
Although you may not benefit directly from this research, your participation will help the researcher gain additional understanding of the process of translating into one's native language. Knowledge gained may contribute to addressing additional psychological issues related to the profession of translator.

Costs and Compensation:
There are no costs to you and there is no compensation (no money, gifts, or services) for your participation in this research project.

Assurance of Confidentiality: The researcher will keep your information confidential. Your name and demographic data will be assigned a number used for identification in the database of the experiment. You will always be identified, orally and in writing, by this number when writing up the report of this experiment or when discussing it with the VSU professor who is supervising this experiment.

You will be required to submit your demographic data, pre-test, and post-test to the researcher's email associated with Valdosta State University, which is a secure email. All your emails related to this experiment and well as the researcher's email replies to you for this experiment will be stored in an email folder which will be completely and permanently deleted after the experiment final report has been submitted and no later than December 10, 2013. Your demographic questionnaire, pre- and post-test will be also saved in a folder on the researcher's personal computer and will likewise be completely and permanently deleted after the experiment final report has been submitted and no later than December 10, 2013.

The results of this report will solely serve to satisfy a course requirement for the course entitled PSYC 3600 - Experimental Psychology; the final report will be submitted only to the VSU professor who is teaching this course and supervising the experiment. No portion of the data and materials collected from you during this experiment and none of the results and conclusions of this experiment will be published in any form anywhere in the world.

Voluntary Participation: Your decision to participate in this research project is entirely voluntary. If you agree now to participate and change your mind later, you are free to leave the study at any time.

Information Contacts:
Questions regarding the purpose or procedures of the research should be directed to Codrina Cozma at 229-251-9927 or [email protected]

Count me in! Sep 25, 2013
