I have just wasted an hour reading up on church architecture, and I can't find the term that would be used to described the stepped element between the two original (lower) towers on the facade of this cathedral.

La fachada actual y la torre nos remiten de alguna manera a la arquitectura colonial chiapaneca: el remate escalonado de la fachada recuerda al de la iglesia de la Asunción de Soyatitán y al ábside mismo de la catedral, mientras que la torre es una pariente anacrónica de las de Copainalá y Tecpatán.
