English term

Munchkin verse

English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
"I occasionally write haiku. Munchkin verse is how I think of the form, ergo I'm working on a 'Wizard of Oz' series."

I know about the Munchkin game, but what exactly is Munchkin verse? I've checked the Internet for the expression but the meaning still remains unclear to me.

very short poetry

As Ufuk says, the term originates from the Wizard of Oz - the Munchkins are very short. So are haiku. This particular author always thinks of haiku as a very short version of poetry, and this has inspired them to use the Wizard of Oz as the subject for a set of haiku.

munchkin talk

I think the author is referring to the way the munchkins in the Wizard of Oz talk and sing. Check the below link for a video excerpt.

neutral Arabic & More : I originally agreed with your explanation but believe that Jim is correct in what he is saying. I hadn't considered the idea of "short verse" before, but I think it makes sense.

neutral Jim Tucker (X) : The asker's text says this name refers to the form, not the manner in which it is delivered. In other words, "munchkin verse" is short verse, just as the munchkins are short, little people.
