Italian term

scansionare una lisergia

Italian to English Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama a play
"Eschilo e ricci/forte, genesi e ipercontemporaneo, Artaud e l’hard rock dei Led Zeppelin, sovrapposizioni intertestuali sonore e fisiche, tutte tese a ***scansionare una lisergia*** che - proprio in un momento storico come questo in cui una società si determina attraverso la delimitazione dell’Altro (assicurandosi così la propria identità) - serva da bussola per rintracciare traiettorie."

I've found that lisergia is a component of LSD. It may also refer to lysergic acid, though that meaning seems to make less sense here. I honestly can't make much sense out of it except to say that perhaps these elements of Forte & Ricci's play 'Orestea', being described here in the text, are elements that help 'ingest/dissolve/metabolize' an LSD that helps people find their way in today's cold society (the author mentioned the cold society earlier in the paragraph).

Any other ideas?

Wondering in Rome,

Discussion

Peter Waymel (asker) Apr 21, 2014:
@missdutch Hahaha! Yes, venice Biennale texts can border on the full of s***. Hahaha.
philgoddard Apr 12, 2014:
I think the similarity between lisergia and liturgia is coincidence. If it's a play on words, it's very obscure.
Jim Tucker (X) Apr 12, 2014:
it's structuring a liturgy, arranging the rite by sections -- the manner in which ritual is interspersed with text.

" Il rito ambrosiano presenta una scansione liturgica più diversificata di quello romano."

as for the text, it probably means just setting an LSD trip to music, but cleverly put. Best part of the quote (admittedly not a great distinction)
philgoddard Apr 12, 2014:
What does that mean?
Jim Tucker (X) Apr 12, 2014:
Play on words from "scansionare una liturgia" - did someone mention this or did I miss it?
P.L.F. Persio Apr 11, 2014:
maybe, Phil, but it's more the "how" that grates on my nerves; atrocious style, and the editors of this reputable publication should know better, don't you think?
philgoddard Apr 11, 2014:
Actually Although this is a field known for pretentious bollocks, I'm not sure that's the case here. It's difficult to translate, but it's making a meaningful point, and I'm guessing it's from a reputable publication.
P.L.F. Persio Apr 11, 2014:
arty-farty alert! Gosh, Peter, I'm sorry for you, what a load of pretentious b******s you have to translate!
Thanks for the link, Phil.

I'm not sure what scansionare means here, though. The literal meaning is to scan. Could the idea be "induce a hallucinogenic state"?
philgoddard Apr 11, 2014:
Some clarification It took me a while to work out the meaning of the first few words, particularly because of the missing capital letters, but it appears to be about an adaptation by two people called Ricci and Forte of Aeschylus' Oresteia.

Something along these lines, I think.

IMO scansionare here means exploring. You can tweak the sentence a bit, of course

Nihil sub sole novum...

I second your opinion on the style. ;)
