Portuguese term

cruzou a ponte aérea

Portuguese to English Art/Literary Advertising / Public Relations Hotels
I need to translate "cruzou a ponte aérea" into American English.
Sentence:
"Um famoso hotel de São Paulo cruzou a ponte aérea e se estabeleceu no Rio."

I know what it means, I just can't figure out the best way to translate it into English. For context, the "ponte aérea Rio-São Paulo" is quite famous and a very busy air shuttle, probably the busiest in Brazil.

Thanks in advance!
Thaise

I just don't think that it makes sense to keep the reference to the air shuttle here, as it is just a metaphor. They are just conveying that they went from being a established business in São Paulo to open a branch in Rio.
