In my view, the idea behind the question is “a reverse proxy, pass-through security service”, as just one unit. If you divide it into two terms, the meaning changes radically.

@678 Is your question correctly asked? I believe the question is misleading as it is posed. In my opinion, the question should read “a reverse proxy, pass-through security service”, and not just “pass-through security service”, and this because, if I am right, the “pass-through security service” does refer to the “reverse proxy”, i.e. it is the reverse proxy what permits the security service to be implemented, to work.
Please note that XXXXX offers “network service solutions” (plural, no definite article), which consist of 1) A reverse proxy, pass-through sercurity service (singular, note the definite article!); and 2) A content distribution network (CDN) (also singular, with definite article too). This clearly means that the pass-through security service refers to the “reverse proxy”, and the whole item is singular, therefore the article “a”.
