Spanish term

rollo bollo

Spanish to English Art/Literary Slang Highschool conversation
Hi everyone,

I need some help translating this expression into English.
It is part of a dialogue between two teenage girls who are best friends and it goes like this:
-Oye, ¿a ti te gusta alguien de nuestra clase?
-Mm.. no.
-¿Cómo que no?
-Bueno, a ver, me gustas tu. Pero no en plan **rollo bollo**, ¿eh? Yo eso lo tengo muy claro. A mí me gustan los pitos.
-Ya, ya.

So, I understand the gist of the conversation, but I am struggling to find a similar expression in English that conveys the same idea.
Any help welcome :)

Also, if anyone could confirm the spelling, that would also be helpful. So far I have come across rollo boyo, rollo bollo and rollo-bollo.
Change log

May 3, 2023 17:56: abe(L)solano changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): Toni Castano, Juan Jacob, abe(L)solano

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

PRO query I think the variety of options available for this makes it definitely a PRO level query, as care needs to be taken to avoid offending people. For example, "dyke fling" comes across as rather pejorative to me, and I am neither female nor gay (AFAIK).

As a native speaker of US English and a 29-year-old that's pretty well versed in slang, I had never heard the term "donut bumper" before; and without context, I'm not sure I would have been able to guess what it meant. To me, it sounds like one of the crazy things that people make up for urban dictionary. I don't think I'd use it unless the characters are prone to using outlandish terms like this!
Taña Dalglish May 3, 2023:
Personally, I would not have known "donut bumper" unless I looked it up! A lesbian

A lesbian. See "carpet muncher," "tuna taco gourmet," or "dyke."

One option I found here (https://www.thepinknews.com/2017/09/27/10-brilliantly-weird-... is 'doughnut bumper'. She could say "Not in a doughnut bumper way". I like that it maintains that play on 'bollo' but I would like to make sure it is not an offensive expression.

As Juan said, this is Spain:
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/bollo
Adjective
bollo (plural bollos)
(colloquial, Spain) dyke, lesbian (related to lesbians)
rollo bollo ― dyke fling/thing; dyke stylish

Another:
What does Rollo Bollo mean?
(colloquial, Spain) dyke, lesbian (related to lesbians) synonym ▲ rollo bollo ― dyke fling/thing; dyke stylish Synonym: bollero.
Juan Jacob May 3, 2023:
Hasta donde entiendo, "bollo" (En España) es el sexo femenino es decir, la amiga dice que no le gusta el "estilo bollo", que prefiere a los hombres. Ahora, lograr el mismo tipo de rima con "llo" es imposible en mi opinión.

disagree Juan Jacob : Bueno, retomar lo que sugiere otro colega no me parece del todo correcto. Y falta esa chispa de imaginación para alguna rima.

Thanks Neil. I agree with your post, all the more as the original is slangish but not offensive.
