Spanish term
cachila

Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
This is from a book by a Spanish author describing her family background:
He hablado de los antecedentes familiares de mi madre como hechos objetivos, pero ¿puedo acaso imaginar lo que sentiría Susana de once o doce años cuando veía que su padre, el cachila, tenía a su disposición mujeres de todas las edades?
I am seeing online different definitions for that expression in different countries. In Uruguay it means an old car, in Argentina a certain bird...any idea what it means in Spain?
Thanks

Hola, Wendy
A mí me da la sensación de que en este contexto "cachila" hace referencia a la acepción de coche viejo y usado que mencionaste. Según el contexto que mencionas, Susana contrapone esta cualidad negativa del padre a su capacidad para atraer mujeres que no sean necesariamente de su misma edad. Espero que te sirva. ¡Saludos!

old crock/rogue
If Luisina's take (coche viejo y usado) is correct, then this could be an option.
Then again, paying attention to Helena's reference, maybe something like "old rogue" could work just as well.
Then, the translated phrase would be something like this:
"...when she saw that her father, the old rogue/crock, had women of all ages at his disposal..."

Example sentence:
The car was an old crock, an old German model from the 1930s
... car was an old crock that wouldn't keep up with the others...

jalopy
If the idea of an old car is what the author meant, this might be a good option.
... her father, a jalopy [of a man], had women of all ages ...
... a jalopy is a rundown, beat-up, falling apart car that needs to be replaced.

clunker
Ese termino se usaba mucho en los 1950-1960 para referirse a un carro viejo que no servía o que daba muchos problemas. Todavía se sobre entiende la palabra como parte de un dialecto en algunas partes del sur de EU.
