An International Consensus Conference on Intersex was organized by the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society and the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology in 2006 that resulted in a consensus statement proposing the term disorders of sex development (DSD) to encompass congenital conditions with atypical development of chromosomal, gonadal, or anatomic sex.
