The Effects of Filler Settling

Many formulated compounds contain fillers to impart desired properties. The fillers are incorporated (mixed) into the resin and/or hardener or both at the time the products are manufactured. Although formulators take great care in selecting fillers and use various additives to keep them in suspension, there will be some settling occurring under certain conditions.

retassure = shrinkage

retassure ouverte = open shrinkage

I cannot really figure out what "débouchante" is exactly possibly equivalent to ouverte hence the proposal for "open shrinkage"

All three terms are correct, but usually in diccionaries we found the term Pipe (defect)

The first segment was easy [German: Lunkern - see ProZ www.proz.com/?sp=h&id=304163, Spanish - rechupe or cavidad de contracción, Polish - jama skurczowa]. The terms and definitions were checked and approved by my customer, a large Steel service centre.My confidence level is very high.

And "débouchante"? At daily basis I work in the metallurgy branch in Spanish and Polish, English and French are just used as support languagues.
La retassure peut être:- concentrée: retassure- cavité [avec deux possibilites pores moins ou plus ouverts], ou dispersée: micro retassure. La retassure dispersée, microretassure ou porosité interdendrique s'apelle en anglais "shrinkage porosity" et n'est pas évidemment notre cas. I didn't find "open contraction cavity" but "open pores": "the contraction cavity is in the head part of the ingot which has a ... In this case, instead of metal there remain open pores ..." I would let just "The produced ingot doesn't have any contraction cavity" :)

retassure means where the metal has folded over and formed a cavity or 'discontinuity', which is the generic term, due to shrinkage or crushing. In liquid penetrant testing for metal defects, (called ressuage in Fr) distinction is made between open cracks (débouchant) and subsurface defects. Whatever above term you use, the main point is to distinguish between open and subsurface.
