French term

(VF)

French to English Marketing Tourism & Travel Walking tour guide/suggestions
Traversez le chemin et prenez le sentier tout droit (VF).
Le sentier longe la rivière sur la droite et une clôture sur la gauche.

I am sure this will appear all too obvious to me when a solution is found, but right now I have no idea....

Carol Gullidge Mar 14, 2016:
I love Donal's suggestion (Via Francigena) and believe this corroborates it (but don't ask me to translate it!):

Podere San Giorgio B&B (Radicofani, Provincia di Siena ...

Carol Gullidge Mar 14, 2016:
not to be confused with via ferrata presumably, which is quite a different thing!
Lara Barnett (asker) Mar 14, 2016:
@ DLyons & Andrew This is at Podere San Giorgio (Italy)
The term also appears later:
"Au croisement, ignorez la route à gauche et continuez sur le chemin en montée à droite.
Vous passez à côté de deux hangars agricoles sur votre gauche et continuez tout droit en montée (VF)."

Re: voie ferrée - I cannot see any evidence that it is. There is nothing said about railway lines.
Andrew Mason Mar 14, 2016:
Lara, Could this be 'voie ferrée' - an old railway line?
DLyons Mar 14, 2016:
Where is this? e.g. things like VIA FRANCIGENA are possible.

Via Francigena

They use "VF" on some signs - see e.g. last 'photo on http://strada.bicilive.it/e-magazine/bike-news/via-francigen...

Podere San Giorgio is close e.g. "Dopo qualche centinaio di metri superiamo un secondo ponticello, in prossimità del Podere San Giorgio" on link

Yes, it should be left as VF - it reads to me like they are saying follow the sign marked VF.
Note from asker:
Thank you. I will take this as the meaning, but I will leave the "VF" as abbvreviated (like for like). Do you agree?

Thanks Lorraine.
agree BrigitteHilgner : Yes - and the asker should have provided some basic information when posting her question. http://www.viefrancigene.it/le-tappe/inghilterra/234-vf-en1-...

Thanks Brigitte.
agree Carol Gullidge : It could be that VF is explained elsewhere in a Key (??) At least, that is my experience of translating travel guides… BTW, I don't think this was at all obvious!

Thanks Carol - yes, quite likely a Key. Not obvious, I was quite chuffed with myself :-)
