Olá a todos,

Estou vertendo alguns termos de pratos culinários e fiquei com dúvida quanto a versão do termo acima. A princípio, coloquei "Filet Mignon of Suckling Pig with Farofa (a Brazilian toasted manioc meal) of Sweet Passion Fruit". Como farofa não tem um termo equivalente, optei por mantê-lo em português e dar a respectiva explicação de seu significado. Sei que maracujá é "Passion fruit", mas, na frase, é especificado o tipo de maracujá, que, no caso, é maracujá doce. Literalmente, fica "sweet passion fruit", porém, ao meu ver, fica bem estranho. Queria saber se há algum termo específico ou equivalente para "maracujá doce".

Não esqueça que em inglês come-se "pork", não "pig".
"Filet mignon" is only for beef (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filet_mignon).
O filet mignon do porco em inglês é loin (veja no corte mostrado na figura na referência anterior.)
"sweet passion fruit" está perfeito (é uma variedade diferente da Passiflora sp).
Eu deixaria farofa e colocaria entre parênteses (manioc stuffing) ou algo pelo estilo explicando (se quiser penso mais a fundo no tema).

Passion fruit (Portuguese: maracujá; Spanish: maracuyá) comes from passion flower vines, plants of the genus Passiflora, native to tropical and sub-tropical America. The members of this genus produce beautiful flowers that are extensively cultivated outside their natural range.

Passiflora edulis is cultivated commercially in northwestern South America, the Caribbean, Brazil, south Florida, Hawaii (where it is called lilikoi), Australasia (where it is always spelled passionfruit), East Africa, and South Africa (where it is called granadilla) for its fruit. The passion fruit of commerce is round to oval, yellow or dark purple at maturity, with a mushy interior filled with numerous seeds. The fruit is grown for its juice, which is often added to other fruit juices to enhance aroma.

The two types of passion fruit have greatly different exterior appearances. The bright yellow passion fruit (for example, in Brazil) can grow up to the size of a grapefruit, with a smooth, glossy, light and airy rind. The dark purple passion fruit (for example, in Kenya) is smaller than a lemon, with a dry, wrinkled rind at maturity.

On the island of Puerto Rico it is called parcha. It is widely believed to lower blood pressure. In Venezuela it is called parchita. In Malaysia and Indonesia it is also known as markisa and the yellow variety is called konyal in Sundanese language.

In Brazil, passion fruit mousse is a common dessert, and passion fruit seeds are routinely used to decorate the tops of certain cakes. Some say there that eating too many seeds makes one sleepy.

It is said in some cultures, after eating a Passion Fruit, you fall in love with the next person you make eye contact with.

The flower of the passion fruit is a source of cyanide.

Eu lembro que a gente explicava assim para o pessoal nos "States" - e pensei em pôr, mas aí lembrei q tb não entendiam o que é manioc...rsrs
neutral lexical : Suckling pork fillet, perhaps. Pork loin is the equivalent of sirloin and ribs of beef, while pork fillet is a leaner cut from the pig's lower back. Otherwise, I agree entirely.

If you say so! I placed a 4 in confidence level because I wasn't completely sure if loin would be correct. It's definitely NOT "filet mignon".

agree sarahjeanne (X) : please don't put "manioc" anywhere in the translation, the common english speaker has no idea what it is; depending on your audience (safe, scared by strange food people) stuffing may be better, farofa is for those who want to try something exotic

neutral R. Alex Jenkins : Sorry to put my ugly foot in the disagree bin, but Maracujá is NOT passion fruit. They are different fruits. I don't even know if Maracujá HAS a translation, a bit like Bacuri or Cupuaçu etc...And also, you should give a translation to 'Farofa'.

In regards to this, I totally disagree Richard. Passion fruit is Passiflora sp (many many species). Maracujá is Passiflora sp. Check any biology handbook, or even the web. Maracujá (or Mburucuya) is the guarani word for Passion Fruit.

maracuya fruits (gb spelling) are more commonly known as passion fruits,the fruit of the passiflora fruit,so named after the passion of christ whose red crossed over stamens on white and skyblue background are meant to represent his suffering on the cross.Mandiocs are not known in northern europe,so use of stuffing as a blanket term is advisable as its contents are unspecific and can be anything according to taste, availability,etc.
