Spanish term or phrase: continencia familiar/afectiva
Good morning

I'm wondering what 'continencia' means in the context of this sentence. The topic of the document is discussing people with schizophrenia.

Here's the full sentence:

'Podría decirse que tengan algún otro tipo de vulnerabilidad, como el acceso a los tratamientos o sus recursos económicos, o la continencia familiar/afectiva.'

Could it be '...family/emotional support'?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated :)

emotional/family support

Explanation:
I believe the word in Spanish is "contención" not "continencia", so, yes, it would be emotional and family support

continencia familiar/afectiva
family (domestic) / emotional stability

Explanation:
continencia has a meaning of restraint or medically of control, as opposed to incontinence.

It would be useful to know if this (ostensibly poorly written) text is from Mexico, as mooted.

Anyway, the present - as opposed to future subjunctive mood that an English lawyer at the Madrid law office bet me 100 pesetas half a century ago didn't exist - could IMO denote either a measure of doubt, likelihood or reported speech:

Podría decirse que tengan algún otro tipo de vulnerabilidad, como el acceso a los tratamientos o sus recursos económicos, o la continencia familiar/afectiva.'

'They could be said to (be likely to) harbo(u)r some other type of vulnerability, such as (non-)access to a range of treatments or because of their wherewithal or domestic / emotional (in)stability.'

Alas, domestic stability - first weblink - is ambiguous for absence of violence at national level.

I'm unsure domestic / emtoional or 'affective' containment - second Proz weblink - gets us very far.

Example sentence(s):
  • Family Stability means the characteristics of a family that support healthy child development, including parental mental health, stable relationships, and a supportive, flexible, and nurturing home environment.
