Swedish term

egna

Swedish to English Marketing Marketing / Market Research
"Reklam för den egna produkten."

Ordinarily, it would clearly be 'for their own products.' I suspect here that the writer intends to mean "for the odd (or peculiar) products."

Any clues?

Peer comment(s):

disagree asptech : Definitely a misunderstanding of the context, which does not convey any connotation other than "own".

agree Christine Andersen : Anything I regard as distinctively my own - things I have made, letters etc. - would be special, if not unique. There are nuances in the concept of 'our own', and here the unique aspect is more important than the ownership implicit in the context

disagree George Hopkins : Unique is a bit strong. Try 'particular'.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Great! The perfect word for the context, and I would have never thought of it. Of course, they mean something positive, and not negative, but I didn't realize that "egna" could be used also in a positive sense."

I have difficulties to visualize an ad for an odd (or queer) product. But without more context it's difficult to say.
