Source text - English It is more important to feel the vein than to see the vein. Choose a vein that is long and straight, not curving or bumpy. Avoid veins on the palm side of the wrist, a site with bruising or swelling over it, or a site where the skin is irritated or shows signs of breakdown. Typical sites for infusion are the top of the hands and inside the elbow.
Wash hands with soap and water, both yourself as well as the person being infused.
Clean your work space.
Gather supplies for the workspace: tourniquet, factor, liquid for mixing, sharps container, syringe, butterfly needle, saline, gauze, and bandage if necessary.
Mix factor according to the manufacturer and draw up into a syringe making sure germs do not enter the syringe. Your nurse will show you how.
Pull the butterfly tubing to straighten out any kinks and loosen the cap at the end of the tubing. This is done to allow for a flash back of blood when in the vein.
