I just finished translating university certificates and transcripts that require a signed translator's certification. I sent the translation as a Word file and the signed certification per PDF. The client says he needs a single file in PDF. I can't figure out how to do that. Help appreciated. Kim

Save it as a PDF

Under the File tab in Word you can export the file as a PDF, so just make your statement the last page of your translation. I imagine it would be useful to number the pages. In the current free Adobe program you can record your signature and/or initials and then append them to the PDF.

"digital signature/certificate" is ambiguous

It depends on what the client means/needs.
With digital documents there are two meanings for "signature":
-- An optically readable signature. This is just a picture that looks like a handwritten signature. You can insert such a picture via MS Word or via Adobe Reader. For Word you need a graphics file (created elsewhere e. g. using a scanner). Adobe Reader enables you to draw/create such a graphics image (see Sheila's hint). In either case it is - from a legal point of view - just a picture of a signage, not a real sigature.
-- A real digital signature. Such a signature proves (1) that you signed that document and (2) that the document has not be modified after you signed it. In many countries this is equivalent to a real sigature (ink on paper).
In order to create such a document you need a tool like Adobe Acrobat (Acrobat Readert isn't suffient) AND an electronic certificate that proves that you are Kim Metzger and not Rolf Keller who pretends to be Kim Metzger.
