Completely stuck - none of the above are possible Nov 3, 2013

I've tried following the instructions to get rid of this problem with adding terms ("Object doesn´t support property or method 'isActive'"), but:

a) I already had Java update 25; the only thing I have done between being able to add terms and not being able to is upgrade to Trados Studio 2014
b) I have a 64 bit operating system which means that I don't see the Security slider on the Java console
c) Nor can I untick the "Enable the next-generation Java Plug-in" box (it's

SDL is investing a lot of $ into R&D and really nobody found out that a combination of Java and Visual C++ or .net is bad combination? In this thread people are complaining that Java problems are since 5-6 years and yet nobody thinks how to solve them?

Why not do it completely in .net without Java dependencies? Java is great solution, however SDL cannot use it properly (I'm using many Java apps like Eclipse, OmegaT etc. and I haven't encountered so big f*ckups anywhere). Better yet

Why not do it completely in .net without Java dependencies? Java is great solution, however SDL cannot use it properly (I'm using many Java apps like Eclipse, OmegaT etc. and I haven't encountered so big f*ckups anywhere). Better yet there is qt - multiplatform (yes - windows, mac and linux), quick c++ framework. I understand that such rewriting would be time consuming and expensive, but do it right or don't do it at all - if there are so big problems with these dependencies for so long time and you do nothing, then what does it mean? And another thing - my friends are complaining also that Trados (even the 2014) is sometimes terribly slow at things - adding item to termbase 10-20 seconds? Ha! Even on very fast computers! Oh, come on! Why another CATs can do it in half second? This is hurting our performance.

Dear Trados - please address this and ditch java if you can't use it correctly, switch to qt, make it multiplatform or do nothing, bankrupt and let some other companies go forward. Maybe one day I'll be so fed up I will make my own "Trados" written in qt that will be lightning fast, working on win, mac and linux and totally free and I would make millions just on support and trainings In this case please do not change anything

Sorry, just complaining, but this is utterly stupid and irresponsible towards users and PAYING customers.

Thanks to an extremely rapid response by SDL my problem is now fixed - it needed the 64 bit Java console uninstalling, the 32 bit one installing and the settings being set as in the instructions previously mentioned in this thread, just in case anyone else has the same issue.

Worked for me! Nov 7, 2013

Hi all

There seems to be another workaround (that I personally do not like and is also no recommended by SDL nor Oracle but now I know why it seems to work for some and for others not) by deactivating the following feature in Java Control Panel > Advanced:

Enable the next-generation Java Plug-in

This not forces MultiTerm to use specifically the latest version (in this case J7Up45) rather the version MultiTerm is working with.

So it might be that you receive the message when you try to add/edit a term to install Java described in one of our articles:

Security warning when adding or editing terms in SDL MultiTerm: Do you want to install this software? ( http://kb.sdl.com/#tab:homeTab:crumb:7:artId:4910 )

Not this again... Nov 14, 2013

I would like to add that I did not encounter this problem until I accidentally opened Multiterm itself (which I never use; I only use MT to add terms when I have Studio 2011 open) and it prompted me to update. I did this a few weeks after the Java update and now I get the dreaded script error.

It's deja vu from a few years back with 2009. I never did solve the issue until I upgraded to Windows 7.

And now I have several ongoing large projects and could really use a fix

Really wish I had time to screw with underlying supporting programs I know nothing about....

Having installed Java 7 Update 45 yesterday and found myself suddenly unable to add or edit new terms in MultiTerm 2011, I tried the solution of disabling the next-generation Java plugin. Well, I was able to add and edit terms in MultiTerm again, but a new problem was created, which was that term recognition in Studio 2011 no longer worked. So I re-enabled the next-generation Java plugin, which solved the term recognition problem in Studio, but of course prevented me from adding or editing terms in MultiTerm again.

Like the previous poster and several earlier posters, I have a large ongoing project and have had to waste good work time while trying to figure out a fix to this issue. I don't want to have to uninstall the new Java update and reinstall an earlier version as that could create problems of its own, as it seems to have done for others here, and thereby waste more time that I don't need to lose. But there's a lot of my project still to go, and it looks like I may not be able to use MultiTerm for any of it unless I take the highly undesirable plunge with the uninstalling/reinstalling Java thing. And what of other projects after that?

How close is SDL to rolling out a patch to fix this? I think some of us are pretty desperate for it to be sorted.

No, I gave up... Nov 22, 2013

All the issues combined made me decide to export all TMs and TBs to MemoQ 6.2 and use that software as my main CAT-tool.

- I can't find key settings that were there in Studio 2011
- 100% certain crash of Studio within 10 entries to Multiterm
- Slow opening and closing of the MT pane
- No possibility to manage double entries
- No possibilty to delete unwanted entries
- Every sungle time entering the language options over and over again

Hm Nov 24, 2013

Dear Eszes,

The issues you mention have been around forever (4-5 years), people have been complaining about them constantly and SDL have been too busy rolling out 'new' versions to fix them.

I am not an optimist.

Kind Regards,
Pavel Tsvetkov

A third Millenium problem... Nov 25, 2013

Pavel Tsvetkov wrote:

You are wrong
"Forever" means rather the beginning of the millennium.
The first Java based error I remember is the (in)famous #101 bug in Multiterm Extract in Trados 5.5 SPS (released in 2001, AFAIR).
AFAIK the root cause was never fixed and it still occurs.

I am not an optimist.

Neither me.

Frankly speaking, Multiterm is more stable than, let's say, 7-8 years ago 'cause most .Net issues were fixed (it was really hard to make work Multiterm iX...) but Java is still a culprit.
IMO it should be removed.

Cheers
GG

Just uninstall Java Nov 26, 2013

I've just uninstall Java and everything works fine again. Marvelous! No more Java update for me in the future. Only use the one that goes with the Trados installation package.

Nope. The termbase viewer window just remains empty when I try to add a new term. Awesome!
