1. OBJECTIVES :
To ensure that the Ambatovy Safety Management System (SMS) is effective, complies with the requirements of OHSAS 18001 and is sustainable.
To provide a methodology to measure the compliance, in order to identify, evaluate and control or eliminate potential Health and Safety hazards across Ambatovy properties.
2. SCOPE :
All Ambatovy facilities and organisations.
3. RESPONSIBILITIES :
3.1. Employees
• Comply with all procedures of the Ambatovy SMS and practices to control potential occupational health and safety hazards,
• Make themselves available during the internal audit process, to answer in a transpar-ent way all questions that may be raised by internal auditors.
3.2. Health and Safety Department
• Prepares, conducts and debriefs the internal audit,
• Maintains records of audit results.
3.3. Department Head
• Ensures the department is prepared for the audit,
• Provides assistance to the audit teams to ensure the process is relevant,
• Acts upon audit recommendations and ensure close out,
• Ensures budget allocations are made for all agreed action plans resulting from the audit.
4. PROCEDURE :
Within each department of Ambatovy, an internal audit will be conducted once a year, by an audit team familiar with OHSAS 18001 requirements.
Compliance with the Ambatovy SMS will be checked through the 13 chapters of the system :

All non-compliances in regard to Health and Safety that are identified will be brought to the immediate attention of the Department Head as soon as possible following the audit.
Health and Safety non-compliances and recommendations for improvement will be given priority for discussion at Management Review meetings (see the procedure HS-1304).
