In order to determine which proposed source texts are the suitable for use in ProZ.com contests, proposers and participants are encouraged to "highlight" (like contest entry tagging) and discuss proposed source texts. A good contest source text should pose a reasonable challenge to translators, while allowing for "separation". Vairamuthu was born on 13 July 1953, to Ramasamy Thevar and his wife Angammal, who were agriculturalists based in the village of Mettoor, in the district of Theni, of Tamil Nadu in a Kallar (Thevar) family. In 1957, his family was forced to move to Vadugapatti, another village in the Theni district, due to the construction of Vaigai Dam across the river Vaigai, which led to evacuation of 14 villages (including Mettur). In his new surroundings, he also took up agriculture in addition to his academics.[citation needed]
From a very young age, Vairamuthu was drawn towards the language and literature of Tamil. The Dravidian movement in Tamil Nadu during the 1960s, made a significant impression on his youth and he was inspired by several prominent individuals associated with language, such as Periyar E. V. Ramasamy, 'Perarignar' Annadurai, Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi, Subramania Bharathi, Bharathidasan and Kannadasan. He began writing poems from the age of ten and by his early teens, he was noted as a prominent orator and poet in his school. At the age of fourteen, he wrote a group of venba poems, having been inspired by Thiruvalluvar’s Tirukkuṛaḷ.[citation needed ATA RIGHT KINA.ভাইরামুথু ১৯৫৩ সালের ১৩ জুলাই রামাসামি থেভার ও তাঁর স্ত্রী আঙ্গাম্মালের ঘরে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। তাঁর বাবা-মা তামিলনাড়ুর থেনি জেলার মেট্টুর গ্রামের কৃষক ছিলেন। তাঁরা কল্লার (থেভার) সম্প্রদায়ের অন্তর্ভুক্ত ছিলেন।
১৯৫৭ সালে বৈগাই নদীর ওপর বৈগাই বাঁধ নির্মাণের কারণে তাঁর পরিবারকে থেনি জেলার অন্য একটি গ্রাম ভাদুগাপট্টিতে চলে যেতে হয়। বাঁধ নির্মাণের ফলে মেট্টুরসহ ১৪টি গ্রামের মানুষকে স্থানান্তরিত করা হয়েছিল। নতুন পরিবেশে পড়াশোনার পাশাপাশি ভাইরামুথু কৃষিকাজও শুরু করেন।
ছোটবেলা থেকেই ভাইরামুথু তামিল ভাষা ও সাহিত্যের প্রতি আকৃষ্ট ছিলেন। ১৯৬০-এর দশকে তামিলনাড়ুতে দ্রাবিড় আন্দোলন তাঁর কৈশোরে গভীর প্রভাব ফেলেছিল। ভাষা ও সাহিত্যের সঙ্গে যুক্ত বেশ কয়েকজন বিশিষ্ট ব্যক্তিত্ব তাঁকে অনুপ্রাণিত করেছিলেন। তাঁদের মধ্যে ছিলেন পেরিয়ার ই. ভি. রামাসামি, পেরারিঞর আন্নাদুরাই, কলাইঞর এম. করুণানিধি, সুব্রামানিয়া ভারতী, ভারতীদাসন এবং কান্নাদাসন।
মাত্র দশ বছর বয়স থেকেই তিনি কবিতা লেখা শুরু করেন। কৈশোরের শুরুতেই তিনি স্কুলে একজন উল্লেখযোগ্য বক্তা ও কবি হিসেবে পরিচিতি লাভ করেন। চৌদ্দ বছর বয়সে তিরুবল্লুভারের তিরুক্কুরাল গ্রন্থ থেকে অনুপ্রাণিত হয়ে তিনি একগুচ্ছ ভেনবা কবিতা রচনা করেন।07:24 PM
