Hello, it has occurred to me to need to send large files to my clients (over 100MB), which cannot be done through the e-mail.

I know that there are several services available on the Internet that forward these files, but I was wondering which one you use and trust (because I don't want my files to end up in I-don't-know-what hands).

For those of you who know, could I possibly use my FTP for this?

Thank you!

Hi there!

I usually use YouSendIt.com with great results.

Hope it helps.

sendspace Feb 22, 2008

Hello Eleni,

I just had an agency point me towards sendspace.com -- a very useful because you don't need to create an account, and it is free (supported by advertising).

Hope that helps,

greg

More than 100Mb Feb 22, 2008

Well,

I think that Yousendit is very convenient, too. What happens when the file to upload is bigger that the 100Mb that Yousendit sets?

www.sendthisfile.com is not bad either.

I use both (SendIt.com and this one).

Good luck!

FTP Feb 22, 2008

Yes, FTP is also an option (either your FTP or your client's).
Some of my clients actually ask me to use their FTP servers.

Funnily enough, the same thing happened to me this week.

The advertising on the page I was sent to featured a videoclip of a lady with large, er, assets.
I'm a grown man, I know what's on the internet, I don't mind.
It occured to me, however, that I probably would NOT be using sendspace to send large files to my mother, for example.

I can recommend yousendit.
You do need to create an account, and they DO send one or 2 emails a week.

I use both Yousendit and sendspace, but at least in my PC Yousendit is slower.
Also, with Yousendit you can only send 100Mb for free. If more than 100Mb, you have to pay for it.
A better solution would definitely be an ftp server.

Sendthisfile Feb 22, 2008

Hi all!

I use Sendthisfile.com. The biggest file I sent was 469 MB.
The only disadvantage I find in the free accounts is that the file is available for download just a couple of days.

My 2 cents,
Marina

Thanks for saying that, I hope this didn't happen today (I used Sendspace), I'll let the client know that I'm not that kind of girl!!!

And that's it. Now you have your own FTP without strange ads.

When the client confirmed that he had downloaded the file, delete it again, otherwise Google might find it. And if you're really paranoid, you can easily create a virtually hackerproof file that the client can open but no-one else:

Simply make sure the zip file has a nonsensical name, and then put the zip file into another zip file, and put a password on the second zip file. Remember, even if a zip file is password protected, anyone can still see the filenames in the zip file, unless it is double zipped like I described.

One more... Feb 27, 2008

This site allows you to send up to 10 GB and protect it with a password for free:
http://dl.free.fr/
But please don't give them any business (if you're in France)! They owe me money and have extremely poor customer service...

John
